Karate in the Community CIC is not just a martial arts club, but a wider reaching catalyst for positive change. We believe that martial arts is a powerful tool for personal development, improving physical fitness, mental resilience, and self-confidence.
Our inclusive programmes are tailored to meet the diverse needs of our community to ensure that everyone can take some value from the work that we do.
Founded in 2023, Karate in the Community CIC took the passion and personal experiences of Director, Becky to try to effect positive changes in how people see themselves, their ability and their worth. Becky started karate as a child in 1992 as a way of building confidence and learning self defence to safeguard against the abusive step father she then lived with. Becky saw first hand, the benefits of martial arts on her own self belief, mental wellbeing and as a way of socialising too. Karate proved to be a useful tool for building confidence, combating against bullying and improving physical fitness, coordination and flexibility. It also brought lots of opportunity - to learn, progress, compete and to share.
Becky is now a third dan black belt, with numerous national and international titles and she runs her own karate club. It was through teaching others that Becky saw the positive impact of karate, watching children grow in their self belief, seeing adults' pride in their physical progress and all while learning an invaluable life skill that just might keep them safe from harm, should those skills ever be called upon in a real life situation. Karate in the Community takes all of these benefits out of the karate club and into the community to reach as many people as possible to share the skills, opportunities and benefits of martial arts.
Our vision is to see a more confident, empowered and inclusive community through sharing the benefits of martial arts.
Our mission is to deliver accessible and effective self defence workshops, martial arts based sessions and lived experience led discussions to inspire, empower and influence individuals and communities to help to bring our vision to life.
We are dedicated to promoting mental and physical wellbeing while making the benefits of martial arts accessible to all.
Empowerment: We believe in the transformative power of martial arts to inspire confidence and self belief, empowering individuals to see their worth, their capability and ability to navigate life's challenges with strength and resilience.
